Bohemia Manor junior Ty Franks won his third straight 1A title Saturday at the state cross country meet at Hereford.
It was the 11th state title for Franks, the most of any county athlete. The Eagles finished a distant second in the team competition behind Southern (Garrett). The winner is then determined by which team's sixth runner finishes ahead of the other's sixth runner. The Rising Sun girls cross country team turned in an outstanding performance at the Maryland Track and Trail Invitational Saturday at Fair Hill.
The Tigers placed third in the Small Schools division behind Catoctin and Cambridge-South Dorchester. It should be another successful season for the Perryville cross country teams.

The Rising Sun girls cross country team returns its top seven runners from last season and has added two promising newcomers.
Autumn Russell has been the Tigers' top performer over the last two seasons. Emma Wheeler is expected to challenge Russell for the top spot.
